and Foodie Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For Queen&#8217;s birthday weekend this year we decided to visit the spa towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs about 2 hours\u00c2\u00a0north of\u00c2\u00a0Melbourne.\u00c2\u00a0 They are both known for their mineral springs, local cheese and produce, and good restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>As I was looking for hotels in the area I found <a href=\"www.shizuka.com.au\">this <\/a>Japanese style retreat and\u00c2\u00a0knew immediately that this was where I wanted to stay.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Designed as a traditional Japanese ryokan complete with tatami matting, cedar wood latticed screens,\u00c2\u00a0and futon bedding.\u00c2\u00a0 It also came with a complete japaense breakfast of salmon, rice, miso, and vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived we were asked to take off our shoes and use the slippers provided.\u00c2\u00a0 Then we were taken to our room and shown the summer kimonos provided for us to wear.\u00c2\u00a0 As we settled in green tea and cookies were brought by one of the Japanese staff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_1749\" style=\"width: 501px\" main dining room and lounge for dessert and tea while the staff set-up our futon for the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling refreshed in the morning we took our japanese style breakfast in the dining off for a walk around the rural area the resort was set in. It was very relaxing and allowed us to clear our heads of all the stress from work and everything at home and got us ready to relax even more when we got our massages back at our resort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After exploring Daylesford during the afternoon and touring an old convent\/orphanage which has been turned into an art gallery, we dined at what was ranked one of the top country restaurants in Australia, Lake House.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1751\" style=\"width: 508px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSCF2176.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1751\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1751   \" title=\"DSCF2176\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSCF2176-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thejohnsonsjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSCF2176-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thejohnsonsjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSCF2176-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1751\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charger painted by the owner\/chef&#39;s husband<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The food was magnificent and it was too easy to eat too much but loved every moment of it. We immediately were planning our next trip back to sample some of their other wonderful dishes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The next morning after another Japanese breakfast and a walk we toured more of the town and all the art galleries. On the way out of town we stopped by Cliffy&#8217;s Emporium which is a cafe and deli with lovely cheeses, smallgoods and other little delicacies.
