{"id":2295,"date":"2012-10-11T12:34:17","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T19:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/?p=2295"},"modified":"2012-10-16T01:11:11","modified_gmt":"2012-10-16T08:11:11","slug":"visit-with-family-in-barcelona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thejohnsonsjournal.com\/?p=2295","title":{"rendered":"Visit with Family in Barcelona"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My second cousin, Ken and his family moved to Barcelona four years ago and since Scott and I loved visiting Barcelona in 2004 we just had to go and visit them (and just in time because they are moving back to the States this month).<\/p>\n<p>Our journey to Barcelona from Toulouse started off a bit rocky when our plane was canceled.\u00c2\u00a0 The airline offered to take us by bus, which they said was 4 hours.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead of trying to work our accommodations on the fly we decided to take the bus.\u00c2\u00a0 Little did we know we would be on a bus for 6 hours and not arrive in Barcelona until about 2am.\u00c2\u00a0 Not a great way to start off.<\/p>\n<p>But after some much-needed rest and some local tips from the family, we were off to explore Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>One of the things we were most impressed with Barcelona when we visiting in 2004 was the great architecture by Gaudi.\u00c2\u00a0 We were keen to go back to a couple of this buildings as well as see the impressive La Sagrada Fam\u00c3\u00adlia.\u00c2\u00a0Work started on the church in 1883 and it is still under construction today.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/albums\/290\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sagrada Familia\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/photos\/8181\/medium.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">As you can see, it&#8217;s still under construction.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When we saw it last, the interior was still completely open to the elements. Now they&#8217;ve completed the interior and this is what it looks like.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/albums\/290\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Interior of Sagrada Familia\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/photos\/8204\/medium.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">It is impressively massive inside.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We also got to spend a day enjoying Ken and Nicole&#8217;s local town, monastery, and shopping.\u00c2\u00a0 Nicole even cooked us up some local cuisine for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Back in Barcelona we joined a tapas walking tour, which stopped by the local market so we could learn a little bit more about the local specialities.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/albums\/290\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Small Goods\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/photos\/8189\/medium.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oh yes, there was all the jamon we remembered from last time.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On the last day, Scott, Nicole and I took a cooking class where we learned how to make romesco sauce, cod and red pepper soup, paella, and crema catalana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/albums\/289\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Creme Catalan\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.thejohnsonsjournal.com\/photos\/8179\/medium.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtney&#8217;s beautiful and delicious Creme Catalana<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My second cousin, Ken and his family moved to Barcelona four years ago and since Scott and I loved visiting Barcelona in 2004 we just had to go and visit them (and just in time because they are moving back to the States this month).
