Our next stop was Vietnam and we began in the capital city of Hanoi. \u00c2\u00a0We stayed where most\u00c2\u00a0travelers\u00c2\u00a0do, in the Old Centre, where the street are narrow and motorbikes rule the pavement. \u00c2\u00a0Our first lesson in Vietnam was how to cross the street.<\/p>\n

Step 1) Look like you know what you are doing, maybe raise a hand in the air or a small wave to indicate that you are now going to cross the street.<\/p>\n

Step 2) Start walking at an even pace.<\/p>\n

Step 3) Do not stop, slow down, or speed up (and the motorbikes will just go around you). SIMPLE, right?<\/p>\n

This was VERY scary at first, but then you got pretty used to the idea of organized chaos and just went with the flow.<\/p>\n

We spent a few days taking in the sites including the Old Prison, built by the French or “Hanoi Hilton” as the American POWs called it during the Vietnam war. \u00c2\u00a0It was a very interesting museum, which\u00c2\u00a0portrayed\u00c2\u00a0a unique perspective to French\u00c2\u00a0colonialism\u00c2\u00a0and the American\/Vietnam war. \u00c2\u00a0They also claim to have John McCain flight suit.<\/p>\n

We also saw the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, which was unfortunately\u00c2\u00a0closed at the moment and the Temple of\u00c2\u00a0Literature, which is a Temple dedicated to Confucius\u00c2\u00a0and where the first University in\u00c2\u00a0Vietnam\u00c2\u00a0was founded. \u00c2\u00a0Since it was\u00c2\u00a0graduation\u00c2\u00a0time, many of the local\u00c2\u00a0graduates\u00c2\u00a0were having their photos taken at the temple.<\/p>\n

In between the sites we sampled the local street food, coffee (including\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0Vietnamese\u00c2\u00a0coffee with whipped eggs whites that was amazing, and bia hoi<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0(the local draft beer brewed without preservatives)\u00c2\u00a0available\u00c2\u00a0on almost every street corner.<\/p>\n
