“A day in Belgium”

The first part of our “day in Belgium” was a trip to Koko Black, a very well known Melbourne chocolate shop and cafe. Koko Black’s founding chocolatier was from Burges, Belgium bringing the Belgian chocolate heritage to Melbourne. We ordered their famous hot chocolate and Belgian chocolate mousse. The hot chocolate was the best we’ve tasted in Melbourne and the mousse…well how can you go wrong with chocolate mousse.
To continue the Belgian fun, for dinner we cooked the Belgium national dish, a Flemish beef stew made with beer called carbonnades flamande. Of course Scott got a nice Chimay Grand Reserve for the stew and for sipping while we cooked. Accompanying the stew we made Flemish style Brussels sprouts, carrots, mashed potatoes, and a homemade beer bread.
And of course for desert…more Belgian chocolate!
