The Wood’s arrive in New Zealand

Posted: March 8th, 2011 by Courtney

We picked up my parents at the Christchurch airport on Monday morning after a long flight from San Francisco.  We were originally planning on staying in Christchurch for a few days, but the city was still mostly closed with residents and property owners just being allowed to go into some parts of the CBD after two weeks.  Instead, we decided to drive up the east coast to the small town of Kaikoura.

On the way we stopped at the Waipara valley for some wine tasting and lunch at the Mud House Winery.

Wine tasting - a good start to any New Zealand vacation

We arrived in Kaikoura to our fist “bach” (holiday home).  And boy was the view amazing!

After a quiet night in the bach, my parents were ready for some sight seeing the next day.  We spent the day shopping in town, checking out the seals on the point, eating crayfish (rock lobster) at the famous roadside stand, Nins Bin, and cooking up some delicious green-lipped mussels for dinner.  It was a pretty good day!
