Weekend in the Top End

Posted: April 30th, 2011 by Scott

Over easter weekend we headed up to the “Top End” of Australia to celebrate our friend Matt’s 30th birthday. After taking a red-eye flight, we arrived at 6am, picked up our 4wd rental cars and headed out to Litchfield National Park. One of the features in the park is huge termite mounds.

Check out the size of this termite hill

There are also quite a few waterfalls.

Amazing waterfall

In Darwin they dont really have traditional seasons, rather they have the wet and dry seasons, it stays hot there all year round. As such, we needed some time to cool down so we found some nice rock pools and dove right in.

Theres no crocs in this river, right?

Stop at an outback pub for lunch

Next we made it over to Kakadu National Park which is known for crocs, aboriginal art and as we found out Mosquitoes.

First crocodile spotting

There were some really beautiful wetlands around the park and we took a sunset tour to spot crocs and other wildlife and at the end we were not disappointed by the sunset view we got.
