Staying warm this winter

Posted: July 17th, 2011 by Courtney

July seems to be a month when we stay indoors and enjoy the heater, a cup of tea, and some good home cooking.  This month we signed up for two cooking classes to make life more interesting.

The first one was a Turkish mezze class at a local Turkish resturant.  We learned how to make 4 mezze dishes.  The idea of Turkish mezze is small starters that can be shared with friends and family.  Each dish was then paired with a sample of wine to match.

The second course we took was a Chrsitmas present from Scott’s parents.  It was an all day French pastry course, so needless to say Scott was very excited.  We learned how to make puff pastry, choux pastry, and lots of fillings to make a huge number of french pastries including palmier, mille feille, apple chausson, eclairs, and profiteroles.

The class was really hands-on and we learned alot.

The finished pastries got packed up and we got to take them home.  We had a nice dinner and shared them with a couple of friends back at our place.
