Montana again

Posted: October 22nd, 2009 by Scott

We decided after what felt like a considerably warmer yet drizzly night of camping in Mammoth that the plan we had of leaving the park via the Northeast exit and seeing a few more sights and wildlife along the way was not a viable option. We failed to look at the map earlier to read that just beyond that entrance, the highway closes due to winter weather in Mid-October. Luckily we noticed that before driving two hours to find that out the hard way.

As an alternative we exited through the North entrance in Gardiner, MT. We were lucky enough to see some Big Horned Sheep on our way out of the park. We scared them a bit when we slowed to take a picture, they started climbing the hillside as they are known to do, then inappropriateness ensued.

Come on, this is a family park!

We headed north to I-90 and across to Billings where we stopped at Montana Brewing Co. for lunch. We tried a couple of their beers, a Red ale and a seasonal Pumpkin ale which Courtney enjoyed.

Tonight we’re resting comfortably and warmly again in a hotel in Sheridan, WY. Showers and hot water are a welcome luxury.

Are you going to Big Sky Brewing? Moose Drool Brown Ale is one of my all time favorites!

No, unfortunately we didn’t make it as far north as Missoula. We’ll have to see if we can buy some at one of the local stores!
