SPAM Museum

Posted: October 26th, 2009 by Courtney

Thanks to our friend Tony’s recommendation, we made our way to the SPAM Museum in Austin, Minnesota yesterday afternoon.  We spent about an hour learning about the history of Hormel, SPAM, and how fast we could package a box of SPAM at the world’s one and only SPAM Museum.

We even got access to hundreds of SPAM recipes in their Cyber Cafe. Here’s a recipe for Campfire Fried Rice:

Ingredients:
1 package (7oz) precooked rice
2 cups boiling water
1 package (1oz) fried rice seasoning mix
1 can SPAM® Classic 7 oz, diced

Directions:
1. Place rice in small bowl; pour boiling water over
2. Cover and let stand 5 minutes
3. Fluff with a fork
4. Mix in SPAM® Classic and seasoning mix
5. Transfer mixture to medium skillet
6. Cook over medium heat 5 minutes, stirring often

If you’d like to recommend somewhere for us to go, do, or see, just click on the link on the left and send us a comment.  We will try to go to everyone’s recommnedations along our trip.

Court, What do you think Paw Paw would have thought of this recipe?

I put spam in my fried rice, but i make it without “seasoning mix” that part sounds kinda yucky.

Might I reccommend a Hawaii favorite, the Spam Musubi: Spam on rice with nori (basically spam sushi.) Pick them up at any 7 Eleven.
