We made it to Chicago late in the evening on Tuesday and met up with one of Courtney’s friends Suzanne and her husband Michael for dinner. They were gracious enough to give us a place to stay for the evening as well. We were really glad to finally see someone along the road that we knew and could hang out with. As it was the middle of the week unfortunately they couldn’t join us for sight seeing during the day but did meet us for dinner both of the other nights we were in Chicago taking us to a classic Deep-dish pizza place, Pizzaria Uno, and a fantastic Mexican restaurant, Frontera.
While in the city, besides eating great food, we were able to see some sights and have fun. We got a chance to relax and have some good conversations with locals too!
We also took a couple tours while in the city. One was led by the Chicago Architectural Foundation. This included culturally and commercially significant historic buildings. One of these buildings, the old library was transformed into a open community center after it was obvious the city had outgrown the small building. Luckily instead of leveling the old building and staring fresh on a new larger facility on the same site they kept the building intact and re purposed it. This is one of the domes found in this building, It had just been renovated and cleaned so it was amazing even though the day was cloudy and dark outside.
Thursday night after dinner with Suzanne, we made our way up to Second City which is a comedy club., We were able to catch the free improv show that evening. Unfortunately our camera ran out of batteries while walking around the city so we don’t have many pictures of the city. We were able to get this skyline picture before the camera died though.
