Hilton Head Island

After leaving Charleston, we stopped at the Angel Oak, which is a 1,500 year old live oak tree. The oldest tree this side of the Mississippi, so they tell us. And it was pretty impressive.
We also made a stop for lunch in the town of Beaufort. It was a cute little town with old Victorian homes, nice main street, and marina.
Then we were off to Hilton Head Island for a few days thanks your friends, Pam and Aaron for letting us stay in the families condo on the Island. We had a great time riding bikes around the island, cooking, and trying to catch crab. We eventually caught a couple. First we caught a one clawed stone crab, then a small blue crab, which we tossed back in. Then finally we caught a blue crab big enough to take home and cook. While we were out there a fisherman saw the sad of shape we were in a gave us a redfish to cook up for dinner. What a nice guy.
The island had lots of little shops and restaurants around the many marinas. We stopped by Town Harbor because I wanted to see the lighthouse and needed a break from crabbing all morning.
When we got home we cooked up the fish, crab, pasta, salad, and bottle of wine. We found a recipe for blacked redfish that turned out wonderfully. Scott even did a great job filleting the fish. And the crab was a bit feisty, but we got him into the pot with no injuries.  Thanks again to Pam and Aaron and family for a great stay on Hilton Head Island.
