First Weekend Back in Melbourne

Posted: August 23rd, 2010 by Courtney

We spent the first week back in Melbourne readjusting to the winter cold and time change.  So when the weekend came around we were ready to have some fun.  We started the weekend with some good yum cha (or what we would call dim sum) in Chinatown.

After dim sum, we walked over to Federation Square to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the Australia Center for the Moving Image.  Federation Square is the festival/tourist center of Melbourne.  The iconic buildings are a focal point in the city and people either love them or hate them.  We have visited the square on a number of occasions including outdoor movie nights, festivals, and to visiting the museums.

I don’t have any photos of the actual exhibit since they wouldn’t allow photography, but they had tons of Tim Burton’s sketches as well as some props from his movies.  They even had to Batmobile on display.

To end the weekend (really it was Monday night) we had an eight course tasting menu at the well known, Press Club.  The Press Club is MasterChef Australia judge, George Calombari’s flagship restaurant.  And since we have been totally addicted to the TV show we have been very excited about eating at the restaurant.

Since we were enjoying our food so much, this is the only picture I took

So when we got there were were very surprise and excited to see George  in the entryway.   I’m not sure if seeing George or tasting his flagship desert, Aphrodite (white chocolate mousse with berries, candy rose petals, and dark chocolate “soil”) was the highlight of the evening.
