The Great Ocean Road

Since the weather was sunny and warm we decided to get out of the city and take a trip to the Great Ocean Road with friends, Rachel and Carl.  The Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic and well-known stretches of coastline in Australia and its just south west of Melbourne.
We headed out after work on Friday to the town of Lorne, where Carl’s boss had let us stay in this vacation home for the weekend. Â We settled right into the three bedroom house complete with ocean views.
On Saturday morning we set out to do some sightseeing along the Great Ocean Road. Â Our first stop was the Otway National Park for a stroll on the beach and a stop to check out all of the native koalas. Â This was the first time we have been able to see koalas in the wild. Â Usually they are high up in the trees or away from the roads. Â These seems to not mind eating right by the parks major roadway.
After a quick stop for lunch we went to see the famous Twelve Apostles, which are limestone stacks off the shore of Port Campbell National Park. Â Due to erosion there are now only eight stacks left, but they are still very impressive to see.
Sunday was a lazy day. Â We cooked up a big brekkie, read on the sun deck, and took a long walk on the beach before heading back to Melbourne. Â A great weekend to start off spring!

Yes, we didn’t get very far, but its still been an amazing year. We are still enjoying traveling within Australia. There is so much to do and see in this huge country! Congrats again, Mrs. Stender! I hope you have an amazing first year of marriage, just like we have.

So you realize that it has almost been a year and you only got to Australia, right? So much for the “one year around the world” idea! haha! Love the pics from the 12 Apostles! Looked like a fabulous weekend!
