A Night Out For Scott’s Birthday

Posted: October 7th, 2010 by Courtney

For Scott’s 29th birthday we went to a restaurant called Attica for a fancy night out.   So, I’ll warn you: this blog will mostly be about food.

We had been wanting to go to Attica for a while since it has been winning a number awards including most recently the 73rd best restaurant in the world by San Pellegrino (and Melbourne’s only restaurant to make the list).   And since we recently moved within walking distance from the restaurant, I thought Scott’s birthday was the perfect opportunity.

Scott dressed up for dinner in his new b-day "Aussie" hat (He didn't actually wear this to dinner.)

When we arrived we were surprised that it was a very small restaurant sitting no more than 25 people, but it just added to the atmosphere.  We decided on the five course tasting menu (which also included a small appetizer to begin and a little surprise at the end).

Small appetizer of broccoli, formage blanc, and vinaigrette

This had some amazing textures with the cold lump crab meat, "hot" horseradish snow that melts in your mouth, and a pop of salmon roe.

Potato cooked in the earth that it was grown

Quinoa crusted snapper with broccoli and broth

Next we got a beef dish with potato and bok choy with we totally forgot to take a photo of.  Then was desert.  I think this was my favorite because it was light and when they brought out the “shredded wheat” topping it smelled like apple pie backing in the oven.

To finish we each got a chocolate egg

Overall, it was a great night out.  And I think we will be back to Attica to try their test nights.  This is where they test out new dished for their tasting menu.
