The Melbourne Cup

Posted: November 3rd, 2010 by Courtney

One of the biggest events in Melbourne in Spring is the Spring Racing Carnival.  Melburnians go all out during this month of horse racing and even get a day off work for Cup Day (the second Tuesday of November).

Off to the races!

We decided to check out some of the action on Derby Day (the Saturday before Cup Day) with some Scott’s colleagues.  Traditionally everyone wears black and white on Derby Day, so we  put on our best outfits, had a champagne brunch in the City, then we were off to the races.   Unfortunately, it started to rain as soon as we got to the race track, but we made the most of our day and found some seats that were out of the rain.

On Cup Day, the weather was looking a bit better and since we all had the day off work we decided to head to the Yarra River and have a BBQ.  We found a BBQ right on the river and cooked up some snags (sausages) and other Aussie favorites.
