Food Festival Fun

Posted: March 21st, 2010 by Courtney

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has been going on for the past week with live cooking demos, tours, special dinners, and lots more.  Scott and I joined in by going to a couple of fun events over the week.

The first event was the Great Victorian Micro-brew Off, which was a must for Scott.  We got to taste and vote on our favorite micro-brews from all over the state and got some good bbq as well.

Later in the week we went to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at Federation Square. We brought some snacks and wine (yes, you can have alcohol in public places in Australia) for the free showing on the big screen.

We ended the Food and Wine Festival with a progressive dinner, which meant we got to go to three different restaurants for a three course dinner paired with a glass of local wine.  First, we headed to the Red Emperor for seafood dumplings paired with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a roasted Peking duck pancake wrap with a glass of Pinot Noir.  Yummy!  For dinner we went to an Italian restaurant and Scott got veal and I got fish (of course paired with more wine).  But I think desert at Birsto Vite was the best part.  We got a glass of desert wine and a chocolate terrine with white chocolate ice cream that was amazing! And to finish it off they included a cappuccino.
