Selling Bonanza!

Posted: September 30th, 2009 by Scott

As I mentioned in a previous post, we’ve been trying to sell stuff that we don’t want, or at least don’t want to move up to Lodi. The last few days have been a marathon of selling. We sold the mountain bike to a nice guy and his fiance who he was trying to get into mountain biking. We were thrilled that they gave us the full price on it without any haggling.

Sunday’s selling started off to a horribly frustrating start as we met a middle eastern guy and his father and sister to sell the Nissan. Turns out they were used car salesmen or something and were quite strange, fast talkers, and generally crazies. They tried to talk us down and then tried to get us to let them take the car over to the father’s brother’s place for him to take a look at it. We balked at that idea, got frustrated with their persistent haggling and general attitude, and decided to leave.

Soon after we left the day took a turn for the better. A guy called looking to buy the scooter. We agreed to meet him at home in about an hour, and fancy that he and his wife showed up and were a very normal retired couple. I guess the husband was looking for a “project” to keep him occupied and I think the wife was looking for something to keep him out of her hair and out of trouble. He talked me down a little bit, but we worked out a deal I was happy with. Totally legit transaction, no sketchiness, life was good.

Later that evening we re-posted the Nissan for a lower price. We got several calls and emails and were able to setup a couple appointments to show the car for Monday. After the first person on Monday flaked on us I got a little concerned that this was going to drag out even more. But the second appointment was a nice older lady and her boss who came to check it out. They were totally happy with the car and after a little expert negotiating by Courtney, we had a deal.

We were super relieved to have gotten the major sales taken care of. The extra cash in our pockets (soon to be in bank account) is a nice plus too.
